Benefits of Renting an RV

The biggest benefit of renting an RV is the savings. That means you can use your whole two-week vacation at the same time instead of breaking it down because of the expense of hotels and eating out. Since you can cook all of your meals “at home,” you’ll save hundreds of dollars in a week, especially if you have kids with you.

Another benefit is being able to take your time on your vacation. The only time you may have to worry about reservations is if a popular event is happening – the RV parks tend to fill up around those times.

Yet another benefit is your ability to stay at national parks and event venues. Often, large races allow RVs to park overnight – and have special parking for RVs. If you take your RV to a weekend-long race, you’ll never have to worry about waiting in line to get in every day.

Additional benefits include not worrying about catching a flight and the rigmarole associated with flying, you won’t get held up at security points, you don’t have to worry about losing your luggage, you won’t have to haul heavy suitcases and other items in and out of hotel rooms, you never have to worry about eating somewhere you don’t like because that is the only choice, and you get a clean bed and bathroom.

Reasons to Rent an RV

Rent an RV for a weekend or an extended trip to get a break from the day to day grind, rest and relax in your favorite park or even on private land that you may own, spend time with family – or in some cases, close friends you may decide to invite, and you get to explore many places that you’ve always wanted to explore without paying crazy hotel costs.

Start planning your next vacation by stopping by PleasureLand RV today to find the perfect RV rental.

Upgrade Ideas for Your RV

Redwolf Journeys/Flickr Creative Commons

When it comes to long term trips in your RV, you may want to upgrade the interior, the exterior, and if you have a motorized RV, the powertrain. Upgrades often make life easier, and in the case of the powertrain, certain upgrades can increase fuel economy.

Pleasure Land RV has a warehouse full of parts and accessories, and if you want to upgrade the powertrain on your motorized RV, an excellent service department.

Powertrain Upgrades

Most RVs are equipped to tow, however, you may want to add an external transmission cooler if this necessity did not come standard with your RV. Keeping the transmission oil cool under duress helps to increase the life of the transmission. Towing heavier loads into the mountains heats up the fluid, which in turn, heats up the transmission. These can eventually heat up the engine and in extreme cases, cause the engine to overheat.

Another bolt-on upgrade is a cool intake air cleaner. The air cleaner introduces cooler air into the engine which can increase fuel economy. Additional “bolt-on” accessories include turbo chargers, engine oil coolers and better radiator/engine fans.

Interior Upgrades

Upgrade the interior of your RV by adding more storage options. This might include under-bench storage in a booth or U-shaped dinette, the addition of drawers under a table or under overhead cabinets, a glass shower door if you have a shower curtain only, or an upgraded foot-flush porcelain toilet. Some of the simpler upgrades you may be able to do yourself, but if you are replacing a toilet or adding glass shower doors, you may want to stop by Pleasure Land RV’s service department.

Exterior Upgrades

You might not think that there is much you can do the exterior of the RV, but if you use your imagination, you can come up with a ton of things. You can add more lighting for outside entertainment at night, add a larger awning, or install an outside shower head. Install a portable exterior kitchen by converting one of the outside storage bays.

If you have an idea for an upgrade but are unsure about doing it yourself, stop by Pleasure Land RV to discuss the upgrades or to purchase the accessories needed to implement the upgrades.

Fall RV Recipes

The Flying Enchilada/Flickr Creative Commons

When you are out on the road during the fall and winter months, especially if you’ve spent an entire day hunting, you will want some comfort food – and that means hearty food – ready when you get back in. While some people leave a slow cooker on when they are not home, we don’t advise that, especially in an RV. These are dishes you can make before you leave, then store them in airtight containers in the fridge and freezer.

You can pick up airtight containers and other accessories at Pleasure Land RV, so be sure to stop by for everything you need before you start out on this venture.

Roasted Venison

  • Oil or bacon fat
  • Venison roast – up to 5 pounds
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 Beef bouillon cubes
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Liquid smoke
  • Tabasco sauce
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Potatoes
  • Onions
  • Carrots

Directions:

Melt the oil or bacon fat in the bottom of the crockpot on 350 degrees or medium heat. Brown the venison roast on all sides. Add the water, spices to taste and vegetables. Cover and let roast for about 4 to 6 hours, depending on the size of the roast. About halfway through, taste the juices to see if you need to add more spices. Remove from heat, and let the venison and vegetables cool. Pack in individual servings in airtight containers.

Hearty Beef Stew

  • 3 slices of bacon
  • Any type of beef roast – it can be a cheap cut as using the slow cooker makes it tender
  • 6 cups water
  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Onions
  • Green beans
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Liquid smoke
  • Louisiana hot sauce
  • Tabasco sauce
  • Cornstarch

Directions:

Cut the bacon strips into quarters. Fry them in the bottom of the slow cooker on 350 degrees Fahrenheit or medium heat until they are translucent. Brown the roast in the bacon fat (all sides). Add the spices to taste. Cover and let cook for 4 hours. Taste the juices to adjust spices if necessary. Add all vegetables. Cover and let cook for 2 hours. Taste for spice adjustment. Remove meat and vegetables from the crockpot. Turn the temperature up to high. Mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water. Add to the beef broth (you can do this on the stove in a different pot to do this faster). Stir constantly until broth thickens. It won’t be super thick like gravy, but it will be thicker than water. Add the meat and vegetables back to the slow cooker. Cook the mixture long enough to make sure everything is hot – usually about 10 to 15 minutes. Cool and pack in airtight storage containers.

Be sure to stop by Pleasure Land RV to pick up any accessories you may need or to have your RV serviced before you head out for the fall and winter camping/hunting season.

Increasing Storage Space in Your RV

No matter what type of RV you pick out, whether it’s a fifth wheel, travel trailer, toy hauler, motorized RV or a pop-up trailer, you’re bound to run out of space, especially if you are going on an extended trip. You can maximize storage space by adding several different storage solutions.

Stop by PleasureLand RV to browse through our store for storage containers and helpers – or make your own customized storage helpers.

Slide-Out Caddies

Often, lower cabinets are high and it’s difficult to use all of the space. You can maximize under-counter space by installing sliding shelving. Use under-sink areas in the galley or bathroom for more than storing cleaning materials – you can store towels, dish rags, wash cloths, soap and more, and each item can have its own slide-out basket.

Slide-out storage solutions also work under tables and under overhead cabinets. If you are handy with a saw and a drill, you can even install a slide-out cutting board. Not only do you have a place to store the cutting board, but it gives you additional counter space.

Stemware Racks and Hooks

Instead of letting your cups and stemware slide around inside a cupboard, use under-shelf stemware racks to hold stemware; and use hooks on the insides of doors or under overhead cabinets to store coffee cups. While you’re at it, mount an under-cabinet coffee maker to save room on the countertop.

Shoe Organizers

If you don’t have a lot of space in the bathroom – or any room for that matter – use shoe organizers to maximize wall space. Buy or cut them to size for storing toothpaste, brushes, soap, hand towels, television remotes, tablets, phones, kitchen utensils or anything that you can think of. Look for webbed organizers for the bathroom. If you can’t find a shoe organizers that looks good in the area you need it, you can make something yourself if you are handy with a sewing machine, crochet hook or even a cross stitch needle.

Velcro

Velcro works for many things, whether you need to store television remotes on the side of a chair, need to have a convenient way to mount a GPS onto the dash, or even to hold the bottom of an organizer in place so that it doesn’t swing.

Stop by PleasureLand RV today to pick up slide-out solutions or other storage solutions for your RV.
