The Best Flyfishing Destinations in the U.S.

Pleasureland_0621_flyfishing

Summer RV adventures are some of the best of the year. They involve warm summer days and cooling off in rivers, lakes and oceans across the country. It’s also one of the best times of year to get in the water and catch some fish. These four fly fishing spots are some of the best in the country, so you can catch more fish on your summer adventures this year.

San Juan River, New Mexico

There’s no better way to cool down on a hot New Mexico day than in the waters of the San Juan River. It’s one of the country’s most impressive big-trout rivers, known for sending fishermen home with trout as long as their arms. Catch brown, rainbow, and rainbow-cutthroats one after the other. The fishing gets a bit busier in the summer months, but don’t worry, there are plenty of trout in the San Juan to go around.

Alagnak River, Alaska

A trip to Alaska this summer may seem like a journey, but it’s the best time to visit a state that is frigidly cold in the winter months. Guided fly fishing tours are some of the best ways to go on the Alagnak, because the experts will guide you to the best spots to snag massive arctic grayling, rainbow trout and Pacific salmon. Other perks of fishing in Alaska are the moose, beaver, eagle and Alaskan brown bear sightings that are common along the river.

Bighorn River, Montana

Montana is known for some of the country’s most impressive fly fishing areas, and the Bighorn River is guaranteed to send you home with some massive trout. The waters are highly productive, which means large amounts of insects hatch year-round. Don’t be surprised if you reel in more trout than you can eat.

Colorado River Headwaters, Colorado

If you’re not into fishing with crowds, you’ll love a guided experience on the ponds, alpine lakes and rivers of the Colorado River headwaters. Ten miles of private water provide some of the best catch-and-release fly fishing for brook, cutthroat, rainbow and brown trout in the U.S.

National Fresh Fruit and Veggies Month: Best Produce for Travel

060916_FruitsVeggies

June is National Fresh Fruit and Veggies Month, and it’s the perfect time to become more aware of what you’re eating on the road. Enjoying fresh fruits and vegetables along your travels can seem difficult at first. Some produce ripens too quickly and other fruits and veggies just aren’t the tasty snacks you want when living life on the road. The following fruit-and-vegetable-filled snacks are ones that you’ll start to crave on every journey.

Clementines

Clementines travel extremely well. You can stuff one in your pocket, a few in your backpack, or a bunch on the counter and snack on them as you please. They’re easy to peel and slightly hydrating for those long, dry days on the road. Keep your clementines in a container to keep them from getting smashed.

Cherry Tomatoes

Cherry tomatoes are a produce item you can pick up at nearly every farmers’ market across the country. Pull over and grab a box for snacking while you’re in the passenger seat. Even better, cherry tomatoes taste delicious at room temperature, so they don’t have to take up precious refrigerator space.

Miniature Bell Peppers

Bite-size bell peppers are one of the healthiest alternatives to chips that you can find. They taste delicious dipped in hummus or salad dressing for a flavorful and healthy snack on the go. Even better, the seeds inside the miniature bell peppers are unnoticeable when chomping them down.

Blueberries or Raspberries

Many travelers grab a box of strawberries at the farmers’ market for snacking, but the stems can make them messier than other berries. Opt for blueberries or raspberries, which come in smaller containers and can be enjoyed by the handful.

Upgrading your RV to one with a full kitchen could make a huge difference in the way you eat on the road. Stop in and see us at the PleasureLand RV Centers throughout Minnesota to find your dream, residential-style RV today.

Throwback Thursday: Make Sun Tea On the Road!

5-4-2016

Sun tea is a classic summer drink with a recipe that is often passed down through generations of tea lovers. One of the best parts about making sun tea, is that this delicious, refreshing drink is easy and fun to make. Brew some sun tea on the road this spring with this simple but classic recipe.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 large pitcher
  • Ratio 1 gram tea to 2 ounces water (a tea bag is 2.5 grams)
  • Sun exposure
  • Granulated sugar (as needed)
  • Water (as needed)
  • Lemon slices (if desired)

Brewing instructions:

  1. Make sure the jar or pitcher you use is sterilized and clear.
  2. Pour in room-temperature water, then add your tea bags or loose tea. The higher-quality tea you use, the better your sun tea will taste.
  3. Cover the container loosely to keep dust and debris out, but don’t tighten it so much that pressure builds inside the container.
  4. Place the container in an area that receives abundant sunshine, such as a deck or windowsill.
  5. Make your simple syrup by combining equal parts water and granulated sugar in a large saucepan on low heat. Stir until the sugar has dissolved entirely.
  6. Let the syrup cool and pour it into a bottle. Refrigerate.
  7. Wait several hours until the tea has steeped and its color is dark brown. Don’t leave the tea in the sun for more than 5 hours, but allow it to steep to your liking. Remove the tea bags, discard them and refrigerate the tea.
  8. Serve the tea over ice and sweeten it with your simple syrup. Add lemon slices as desired.
