Fall RV Recipes

When you are out on the road during the fall and winter months, especially if you’ve spent an entire day hunting, you will want some comfort food – and that means hearty food – ready when you get back in. While some people leave a slow cooker on when they are not home, we don’t advise that, especially in an RV. These are dishes you can make before you leave, then store them in airtight containers in the fridge and freezer.

You can pick up airtight containers and other accessories at Pleasure Land RV, so be sure to stop by for everything you need before you start out on this venture.

Roasted Venison

  • Oil or bacon fat
  • Venison roast – up to 5 pounds
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 Beef bouillon cubes
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Liquid smoke
  • Tabasco sauce
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Potatoes
  • Onions
  • Carrots

Directions:

Melt the oil or bacon fat in the bottom of the crockpot on 350 degrees or medium heat. Brown the venison roast on all sides. Add the water, spices to taste and vegetables. Cover and let roast for about 4 to 6 hours, depending on the size of the roast. About halfway through, taste the juices to see if you need to add more spices. Remove from heat, and let the venison and vegetables cool. Pack in individual servings in airtight containers.

Hearty Beef Stew

  • 3 slices of bacon
  • Any type of beef roast – it can be a cheap cut as using the slow cooker makes it tender
  • 6 cups water
  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Onions
  • Green beans
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Liquid smoke
  • Louisiana hot sauce
  • Tabasco sauce
  • Cornstarch

Directions:

Cut the bacon strips into quarters. Fry them in the bottom of the slow cooker on 350 degrees Fahrenheit or medium heat until they are translucent. Brown the roast in the bacon fat (all sides). Add the spices to taste. Cover and let cook for 4 hours. Taste the juices to adjust spices if necessary. Add all vegetables. Cover and let cook for 2 hours. Taste for spice adjustment. Remove meat and vegetables from the crockpot. Turn the temperature up to high. Mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water. Add to the beef broth (you can do this on the stove in a different pot to do this faster). Stir constantly until broth thickens. It won’t be super thick like gravy, but it will be thicker than water. Add the meat and vegetables back to the slow cooker. Cook the mixture long enough to make sure everything is hot – usually about 10 to 15 minutes. Cool and pack in airtight storage containers.

Be sure to stop by Pleasure Land RV to pick up any accessories you may need or to have your RV serviced before you head out for the fall and winter camping/hunting season.

Increasing Storage Space in Your RV

No matter what type of RV you pick out, whether it’s a fifth wheel, travel trailer, toy hauler, motorized RV or a pop-up trailer, you’re bound to run out of space, especially if you are going on an extended trip. You can maximize storage space by adding several different storage solutions.

Stop by PleasureLand RV to browse through our store for storage containers and helpers – or make your own customized storage helpers.

Slide-Out Caddies

Often, lower cabinets are high and it’s difficult to use all of the space. You can maximize under-counter space by installing sliding shelving. Use under-sink areas in the galley or bathroom for more than storing cleaning materials – you can store towels, dish rags, wash cloths, soap and more, and each item can have its own slide-out basket.

Slide-out storage solutions also work under tables and under overhead cabinets. If you are handy with a saw and a drill, you can even install a slide-out cutting board. Not only do you have a place to store the cutting board, but it gives you additional counter space.

Stemware Racks and Hooks

Instead of letting your cups and stemware slide around inside a cupboard, use under-shelf stemware racks to hold stemware; and use hooks on the insides of doors or under overhead cabinets to store coffee cups. While you’re at it, mount an under-cabinet coffee maker to save room on the countertop.

Shoe Organizers

If you don’t have a lot of space in the bathroom – or any room for that matter – use shoe organizers to maximize wall space. Buy or cut them to size for storing toothpaste, brushes, soap, hand towels, television remotes, tablets, phones, kitchen utensils or anything that you can think of. Look for webbed organizers for the bathroom. If you can’t find a shoe organizers that looks good in the area you need it, you can make something yourself if you are handy with a sewing machine, crochet hook or even a cross stitch needle.

Velcro

Velcro works for many things, whether you need to store television remotes on the side of a chair, need to have a convenient way to mount a GPS onto the dash, or even to hold the bottom of an organizer in place so that it doesn’t swing.

Stop by PleasureLand RV today to pick up slide-out solutions or other storage solutions for your RV.

Customizing Your RV

Millennium Motor Coach/Flickr Creative Commons

Each RV traveler has different wants and needs for his or her RV lifestyle. And the only way to get an RV that’s designed just for you, is to customize it just the way you like it. Whether that involves making interior decor changes, upgrading your RV mattress, swapping out your shower head or installing vent fans, your RV can be exactly what you want it to be with a little creativity and help from the staff here at PleasureLand.

Upgrade Your RV’s Decor

Older RV models often have very outdated decor features or simply a color scheme that’s not as appealing as it used to be. Upgrading your RV’s interior can be made simple by purchasing new bed coverings, rugs, throw pillows, towels and other soft goods. Reupholstering your sofa or dinette and upgrading your laminate countertops to solid surface ones are bigger upgrades that can make a huge difference in the way your RV looks and feels.

Get More Comfortable

Compacting your life inside an RV means you have to sacrifice a few of the luxuries you learned to love in your brick-and-mortar home. But many of those luxuries don’t have to be left behind. Consider swapping your RV’s dull stock shower head for one that can amplify your water pressure and even help you conserve water on the road.

RV mattresses can be less than comfortable as well, but that doesn’t mean you have to go out and spend thousands on a top-end mattress for your life on the road. Consider upgrading your mattress with a simple 2-inch memory foam mattress cover. These are often easy to clean and inexpensive, so you can purchase one for every bed in your motorhome, travel trailer or fifth wheel.

Upgrade Your RV at PleasureLand

For bigger upgrades — like air-conditioning and vent fan installs, battery upgrades, inverters and just about any modification you want to make inside our outside of your RV — PleasureLand RV Center is here to help. Our certified RV service technicians are here to handle all of your install, repair, general maintenance and even body shop needs, so you can enjoy your RV lifestyle to the fullest.

Tailgating Fun in Your RV

https://www.flickr.com/photos/illinois-state-homecoming/6251477456/sizes/z/

Football season has arrived, and it’s time to cheer on your favorite high school, college and national football teams. But before you head into the stands, it’s important to prepare for the game with a proper tailgating party. And there’s simply no better way to celebrate than with the comforts and conveniences of your RV.

When you fire up your RV and head to the next football game, follow these easy tailgating tips and tricks to make your next pre-game experience the best one yet.

Finding the Right Spot

Your RV is likely much larger than other tailgate vehicles at the game, and you probably have a larger tailgating crew too. Arrive early and try to find a spot near a grassy section, so you and your friends have more room to spread out. If your RV isn’t equipped with an awning, keep a canopy on hand to shield against the sun or rain.

Pack the Right Supplies

Start by creating a tailgate checklist that you can use every time you pack your RV for a game. Include Mason jars for holding silverware, aluminum food pans for disposing of charcoal remains and a shoe organizer for storing your cups, coozies, bug spray, hand sanitizer, bottle opener and other tailgate essentials.

Always pack double the amount of ice you think you’ll need, so you can keep all of your food and drinks properly cooled. When serving salads and other cool treats, place your serving dish on top of a bowl filled with ice to keep them cool.

Throw a Potluck

There’s no doubt that your RV will be the center of attention at the tailgate party, so instead of spending time and money preparing food to feed all of your friends, ask each member of your party to bring a dish. This makes for a wider variety of foods and takes a lot of the stress off of being the host.

Get Your Tailgate Supplies at PleasureLand

PleasureLand RV Center is your one-stop shop for RV tailgating essentials. Stop by our online parts store to shop our huge selection of shades, outdoor furniture, grilling and cooking supplies, yard games and tons more to make this tailgate season the best one yet.
