Visiting Blue Mounds State Park

A park as beautiful as it is mysterious, Blue Mounds State Park offers up a truly unique experience. Cacti, prairie grasses, and wildflowers dot the landscape as herds of buffalo move across the horizon. Spring is the perfect time to visit since the grasses haven’t grown to their tall summer heights, so the views are unobstructed. The park also features an enigmatic 1250 foot long stone ledge near the southern end of the park. It may have been used as an ancient calendar by native tribes. On the first days of spring and fall, the sunrise and sunset align perfectly with the stones.

What to Do

The park offers an extensive 20-mile trail system with hikes of varying difficulty. There are well-paved, level paths for beginners and steep dirt paths for more experienced hikers. Nature watching is also a valid activity. The park is notably home to buffalo herds, which you may be lucky enough to spy when you’re walking about. There are also guided tours from park rangers, as well as self-guided interpretive trails. Some trails are open for off-road biking and you can cross-country ski during the winter. There’s a swimming pool at the park open during the summer.

Great Books to Read While on the Road

Part of planning for a road trip is making sure your RV is in good working order and packing clothing, groceries and other necessities to take along with you. You should also have a list for non-necessities – things to keep you busy while on the road if you are not driving – and things to do if the weather keeps you stuck inside for a day or two.

On the list of things to do before you leave, include a visit to Pleasure Land RV to have your RV serviced if you haven’t done it yet. On the list of non-necessities, you should have a couple of good books to bring with you while you are on the road. You can either buy a paper version of the books, or if they are available in digital format, download them to your Kindle or Nook. Consider all types of books from romance to historical accounts to travel books.

Kilingiri, by Janna Gray, combines mystery, drama and romance into one novel. It also touches on religion and redemption, loss and gain, and exotic locations.

Sleeping People Lie, by Jae De Wylde is about a young woman from Stamford, England who meets a writer from Boston, Massachusetts and their fixation with each other. But fate deals some nasty blows sometimes – and they face disaster.

Riptide, by Amber Lea Easton, is about an anchorwoman that becomes a lead story – instead of reporting the lead story. The anchorwoman tries to evade the spotlight by staying at her brother’s house in the Cayman Islands.

The Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown, is a good read if you haven’t already read this mystery. Paris, the Louvre, murder and a trail of clues left in Da Vinci’s works will keep you spellbound as the miles tick away – as long as you are not the one driving!

Of course, these are just a few suggestions. Don’t forget to grab some reading material before you hit the road!

Making lists so you won’t forget what you need and want on your trip makes getting ready – especially if you are taking a long road trip – less stressful and allows you to enjoy the trip more since you won’t have to worry about learning about something you forgot right when you need it. Stop by Pleasure Land RV to pick up any accessories or to have your RV serviced if needed.

Lighten Up Your RV This Summer

Whether you’re planning your first long RV trip or you’ve been on several, you’ll appreciate some of these tips to save space or to make living in a smaller space easier. You can even decorate your RV without storing things that take up a ton of space.

Summer Décor

You don’t have to get super fancy and bring statues and fountains with you – wind spinners, windsocks and string lights do a fine job of decorating your RV awning and camp spot. Keep them in a small covered tub in the basement storage so they don’t get damaged and so that they are easy to get to. You can choose from many styles of wind spinners and windsocks. You can also find small figurines that stick in the ground to decorate the outside of your RV.

Organization

Choose any of these accessories, available at Pleasureland RV, to maximize the space in your RV and to make preparing meals easier. Camco Mfg. makes a coffee filter dispenser that mounts under the counter. You simply push the button to open the lid and remove one filter from the stack. This frees up valuable cabinet space in the galley.

Trash is always a problem, especially if you’re in an area with lots of wildlife – particularly raccoons. A collapsible trash can keeps your trash in one place and away from pesky animals – and it saves a ton of space. The can uses a heavy duty spring to support the shape and has tough carrying handles. The trash can uses 33-gallon leaf and lawn bags so you’ll have plenty of room for trash. The trash can collapses to 1½ inches so it doesn’t take a ton of valuable space.

Another issue is grease storage – if you put the grease in the trash can, it could leak out of the bottom of the bag if the bag has a hole, thus causing a complete mess. The smell also attracts unwanted visitors. The kitchen grease storage system puts an end to this, and allows you to dispose of grease without putting it into the black or gray water tanks. Simply pour the cooking grease into foil-lined bags and close the top. The top locks in odors so you don’t have to use it and immediately throw it away – wait until it’s full, then dispose of it in the trash receptacle.

Visit Pleasureland RV before your next trip to pick up any accessories you may need for your next trip.

A.C.E. : Class A Motorhomes

The Thor A.C.E. motorhome gives you the best of what both Class C and Class A motorhomes have to offer and combines them into one. The 2014 A.C.E. lineup comes in 4 different floor plans ranging from 28 to 31 feet and combines the driving ease of a Class C with convenient features and a spacious design.

Interior

As you step into an A.C.E., you’ll see a closet conveniently placed by the door to store items and hang your coats up. The cabinetry comes in either Olympic cherry or Vintage maple and is complemented by one of three decor options. The residential linoleum flooring adds to the look and is also easy to clean. Along with the slideout, an 84″ high vinyl ceiling gives the interior an open feel.

The furniture (including the captains chairs) in the A.C.E. is scratch-resistant leatherette, and the sofa converts into a comfortable bed. Additional bedding is provided with the drop-down bed over the cab. You’ll also have a queen or king bed with designer headboard in the bedroom, and bunk beds are added in the largest model. In the bathroom, the curved shower curtain gives you more space.

The galley has a gas cooktop, double-door refrigerator, microwave, and deep-bowl sink with goose-neck faucet that is functional and also accents the laminate countertops. And depending on the floor plan, a 26″ or 32″ HDTV in the living area comes standard. In addition to unique features like a large mirror above the driver’s seat, the A.C.E. has unique pet-friendly features as well.

Exterior

Built to drive like a large SUV, the A.C.E. has a Ford Chassis with Triton V-10 engine. Bilstein shocks provide a smooth ride, and 4-wheel power disc brakes provide safety in less-than-ideal road conditions. Welded tubular steel floors and aluminum walls give the A.C.E. strength and durability. A full color gel-coat exterior finish with graphics makes this a fine-looking motorhome. Convenient features on the outside include a power awning and shower.

Options

Add a 19″ TV in the bedroom and a 32″ exterior TV. You can upgrade to a 15K BTU A/C also.

Get Ready to Tailgate! Prepare Your RV for Football Season

Hosting the Superbowl party this year? Tailgating for your favorite team?

One of the best reasons to come to PleasureLand RV dealership of Minnesota is so that you can have a party-room on wheels whether watching the game at home or supporting the team at the stadium.

You don’t want to be caught unprepared, though, so put these tips to work to prep your RV for football season:

Stock Twice What You Think You Need

If there’s one thing you can be sure of, it’s that bowls of chips can spill on the floor, dogs can knock people’s beers over, and you can never expect “just enough” to be just enough. A couple extra bags of chips or an extra case of beer won’t cost you much more, but it will ensure that you have enough to go around come what may this football season.

Empty Your Blackwater

The last thing you want is to have to wait in line at the stadium bathroom because you forgot to take care of this. Prepare for tailgating or a party just as you would prepare for a camping trip.

Run a Checkup

In particular you want to check your shocks. When you’re hosting a party with ten or eleven people, all jumping up and down to cheer the team, you’re going to be glad you did. Now of course you want to be aware of the maximum capacity of your RV and you generally do not want to go over that, but parties can be unpredictable, so be prepared.

With all of this in mind, all that’s left is the bodypaint and the invitations. With proper RV maintenance and plenty of food to go around, your tailgates and football parties this year should be legendary.

10 Reasons to Love Autumn in Your RV

RV dealership Minnesota

The summer of 2013 is behind us and along with it, the warm temperatures. While there are many who bemoan the passing of summer, there are some really great reasons to enjoy RVing in the fall.

At Pleasureland RV, your Minnesota RV dealership, we thought it would be timely to remind you of 10 great reasons to love the autumn in your RV.

  1. The amazing fall colors. Probably at the top of everyone’s list, the changing trees and brilliant colors are truly a wonder to behold. Living where we do, it is easy to forget that some people from the south make trips up north each autumn just to bask in the colors. RV’ing gives us a front row seat.
  2. Campgrounds are less crowded. For those that enjoy a bit of solitude when RV’ing the fall is an amazing time. The whole feel of the season is more laid back, quieter, and at a slower pace. Fall gives us a great time to sit back and relax.
  3. Cooler temperatures. This time of year it is possible to sleep with the windows open and turn off the A/C. The air somehow seems cleaner and fresher.
  4. There is less traffic. The fall means fewer cars on the roadways and less traffic jams. This makes travel more enjoyable and less stressful.
  5. Lower gas prices. Generally the end of summer leads to lower fuel costs. This can help the travel budget and may even lead to longer excursions.
  6. Less chance of thunderstorms. Once the heat of summer dissipates, the chances for severe thunderstorms seem to dissipate as well. This can make for quieter, and safer RV trips.
  7. New RV models are out. Fall is a great time for RV’ers because the new models are out, and even in you are not in the market for a new RV, it is fun to take a walk-through of the new models.
  8. New fall recipes. A change of seasons brings about a change in the foods we eat. Seasonal foods like pumpkin, squash and apples play a bigger part in our diets and we seem to move from barbecues to casseroles.
  9. Football. For those who like college and pro football, “tailgating” in our RV’s while watching the games is hard to beat.
  10. A sense of gratitude. In the hustle and bustle of the summer, we can sometimes forget to be grateful. In the fall, we sense our days in the out of doors are limited for the year and we seem to be thankful.

Enjoy your RV this fall. PleasureLand RV Center invites you to visit us to see the 2014 models and to get your RV ready for the winter.
