Tailgate Recipes for the Game of The Week

Recreational Vehicle Minneapolis Minnesota

Football season is in full swing. Whether you root for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the Minnesota Vikings, or have another team of choice, it is time to tailgate and cheer that team on.

As the RV dealership Minneapolis relies on for sales parts and accessories, we see a lot of purple and gold this time of year. We also get a lot of requests for tailgate recipes. Here are a couple of unique but easy recipe ideas for your next tailgate party.

Grilled Potato Salad

Everybody like potato salad, but here is a new spin on an old favorite. You will need eight slices of bacon, four medium red potatoes (cubed), one large onion (white cut into one inch slices), potato salad dry rub and dressing.

Heat grill to a medium-high heat, cook the bacon in a large skillet until crisp. Drain bacon on paper towels and reserve the drippings. Crumble bacon up. Add the potatoes and onion along with the dry rub to the drippings in the skillet. Coat and then remove the potato mixture. Next, in a grill wok or grill basket, grill the potato mixture with the grill lid closed for about 30 minutes but stir every five minutes.

When done, put the salad in a big bowl and add the potato salad dressing, toss, add bacon, serve warm and watch the crowd dig in!

Jalapeno Mustard Dipping Sauce

Add a little heat to your next tailgate party with this dipping sauce recipe. You will need ž cups of mayonnaise, two tablespoons of jalapeno pepper jelly, and ź cup of Creole mustard. Just mix all of the ingredients together until well blended. The dipping sauce can be served with chicken bites, jalapeno poppers or any of your favorite dipping food.

Enjoy the games this fall and into the winter. If you are already thinking about RV season next year, or are a year-round RVer who may be getting ready to head south, stop in and see us for the new line-up of 2014’s in stock or for parts and accessories. October is National Pizza Month

Campfire Backcountry Pizza

There are some food items that remain at the top of the “A” list throughout the years. Some tasty creations have their moment in the spotlight then fade away, but others continue to shine brightly. One such scrumptious item is an authentic pizza pie with all the toppings.

To show appreciation for this time-honored slice of culinary heaven, October is designated as National Pizza Month.

What this means for pizza aficionados is communities and pizza restaurants in cities around the US will be celebrating with special activities and deals. This is a win-win and, best of all, National Pizza Month runs through October 31, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy a slice.

For RVers, you can take advantage of local activities and restaurants paying homage to this luscious pie or make your own and enjoy with friends, family, and other travelers around a roaring campfire.

Pepperoni Pizza

Ingredients needed for this campfire favorite is 1 lb of refrigerated pizza dough, 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella, 1/2 cup thinly sliced pepperoni, 1/4 cup of your favorite pizza sauce and a pizza stone.

  • Place the pizza stone on a grill over a wood fire. Spread the wood around so the flames are at an even consistency and not too tall.
  • Roll out the dough and place on the stone. Cook for 10 minutes until brown.
  • Remove from the fire. Flip the dough over so the cooked side is up. Spread with sauce leaving a 1/2 inch area around the rim without sauce.
  • Add the mozzarella evenly.
  • Add the pepperoni.
  • Place the pizza – uncooked side down – on the stone. Create a tent with aluminum foil to cover the pizza.
  • Place on the grill and cook for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  • Remove and place on a cutting board. Let cool before slicing.

Backcountry Pizza

  • Place dough in a cast iron skillet and cook over fire for about 10- 20 minutes.
  • Add tomato sauce, pepper jack cheese, sun dried tomatoes and pepperoni or salami. Let cook until cheese is melted.

Make your plans for an October outing and include a pizza party to celebrate the pie. Before leaving, stop by PleasureLand RV Center for a service check and any accessories you need to make the trip a tasty one.

October 5 is National Do Something Nice Day

One of the things we really enjoy about the RV lifestyle at PleasureLand RV Center is the people. It seems those that participate in the activity are genuinely nice and very helpful to each other. That’s why October 5th is a day that should easily be celebrated. What is being celebrated? It’s National “Do Something Nice” Day.

Not limited to RVers, of course, Do Something Nice Day is a day to simply do something nice for someone. It could be something small like offering a compliment or something major like giving away a pre-paid credit card. It got us thinking about some ways we could observe National Do Something Nice Day.

  • Offer to pay the check of the car behind you in a fast food drive-thru line.
  • Leave a thank you note to your mailman.
  • Include a scratch off lottery ticket with your tip at a restaurant.
  • Wash your spouse’s car.
  • Take some balloons to a nursing home.
  • Give a child a dollar in a dollar store.
  • Do a chore your spouse would normally do around the house.
  • Call someone just to tell them you love them.
  • Send a note of appreciation to your child’s teacher.
  • Make an effort to smile at everyone that day.
  • Send flowers to someone you know could use a pick-me-up.
  • Pay a toll for a car behind you.

No one seems to know the origin of National Do Something Nice Day, but it is certainly worth celebrating. We are sure you can think of your own ways to observe October 5th, and perhaps even beyond. Call it “paying it forward” or “random acts of kindness,” but we know RVers are pretty good at it.

PleasureLand RV is proud being the RV dealership Minnesota has come to rely on for RV sales, service, parts, and accessories. With locations in St. Cloud, Ramsey, Willmar, and Brainerd, PleasureLand RV is family owned and operated. We invite you to visit and see our selection of new 2014 models in stock.

Tailgate Recipes for the Big Game

As the weather changes, so do the sports. Fans of football are already dreaming about tailgating and the new friends they’ll make. However, no trip to see a big game is complete without all of the requisite snacks, half-time munchies, and other foods you need for the celebration.

Traveling to the tailgating spot with your RV fifth wheels in Minneapolis MD gives you a great way to cook your favorite tailgate recipes right there in the parking lot. Try these two simple snacks to keep you full and ready to cheer for your team.

Choose Your Own Kabobs

Chopping up a variety of meats and veggies allows everyone to make their own tasty snack.

Pack of bamboo skewers, soaked in water overnight

1 pound of boneless skinless chicken breasts<

1 pound of beef, either inexpensive steak or pre-cut cubes

1 pound of pork, loin or thick cut chops

Three large bell peppers, any color

8 oz of whole button mushrooms

2 yellow onions

2 bottles of your favorite barbecue sauce

Chop your ingredients into bite-sized pieces, aiming for evenness among the meats. Keep the veggies a little larger so they don’t burn before the meats are done. Skewer an assortment onto each bamboo stick, then slather with barbecue sauce and cook them over a medium flame on the grill until the meats are done, about 15 to 20 minutes. Turn regularly to prevent burning.

Cold Weather Chili

When the fall and winter breezes are blowing, nothing warms up a tailgating party like chili. This version can be ready to eat in as little as 30 minutes.

1 tablespoon of oil

2 medium onions, finely chopped

4 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon salt

1 6 oz can of tomato paste

3 tablespoons of chili powder

1 3 oz can of chipotle chiles

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

3 pounds chuck ground beef

3 14 oz cans of diced tomatoes in juice

1 can of mild lager beer

2 14 oz cans of kidney beans, rinsed and drained

Heat up the oil in a heavy bottom pot or an enameled Dutch oven. Toss in the garlic and onion, then sprinkle on the salt. Cook the two ingredients until softened. Mix in the tomato paste, chiles, chili powder, and cinnamon. Stir and cook for 3 minutes, then add the ground beef and cook until no longer pink. Introduce the diced tomatoes with all of their juice, the beans, and the beer. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until thickened.

Get Ready to Tailgate! Prepare Your RV for Football Season

Hosting the Superbowl party this year? Tailgating for your favorite team?

One of the best reasons to come to PleasureLand RV dealership of Minnesota is so that you can have a party-room on wheels whether watching the game at home or supporting the team at the stadium.

You don’t want to be caught unprepared, though, so put these tips to work to prep your RV for football season:

Stock Twice What You Think You Need

If there’s one thing you can be sure of, it’s that bowls of chips can spill on the floor, dogs can knock people’s beers over, and you can never expect “just enough” to be just enough. A couple extra bags of chips or an extra case of beer won’t cost you much more, but it will ensure that you have enough to go around come what may this football season.

Empty Your Blackwater

The last thing you want is to have to wait in line at the stadium bathroom because you forgot to take care of this. Prepare for tailgating or a party just as you would prepare for a camping trip.

Run a Checkup

In particular you want to check your shocks. When you’re hosting a party with ten or eleven people, all jumping up and down to cheer the team, you’re going to be glad you did. Now of course you want to be aware of the maximum capacity of your RV and you generally do not want to go over that, but parties can be unpredictable, so be prepared.

With all of this in mind, all that’s left is the bodypaint and the invitations. With proper RV maintenance and plenty of food to go around, your tailgates and football parties this year should be legendary.

10 Reasons to Love Autumn in Your RV

RV dealership Minnesota

The summer of 2013 is behind us and along with it, the warm temperatures. While there are many who bemoan the passing of summer, there are some really great reasons to enjoy RVing in the fall.

At Pleasureland RV, your Minnesota RV dealership, we thought it would be timely to remind you of 10 great reasons to love the autumn in your RV.

  1. The amazing fall colors. Probably at the top of everyone’s list, the changing trees and brilliant colors are truly a wonder to behold. Living where we do, it is easy to forget that some people from the south make trips up north each autumn just to bask in the colors. RV’ing gives us a front row seat.
  2. Campgrounds are less crowded. For those that enjoy a bit of solitude when RV’ing the fall is an amazing time. The whole feel of the season is more laid back, quieter, and at a slower pace. Fall gives us a great time to sit back and relax.
  3. Cooler temperatures. This time of year it is possible to sleep with the windows open and turn off the A/C. The air somehow seems cleaner and fresher.
  4. There is less traffic. The fall means fewer cars on the roadways and less traffic jams. This makes travel more enjoyable and less stressful.
  5. Lower gas prices. Generally the end of summer leads to lower fuel costs. This can help the travel budget and may even lead to longer excursions.
  6. Less chance of thunderstorms. Once the heat of summer dissipates, the chances for severe thunderstorms seem to dissipate as well. This can make for quieter, and safer RV trips.
  7. New RV models are out. Fall is a great time for RV’ers because the new models are out, and even in you are not in the market for a new RV, it is fun to take a walk-through of the new models.
  8. New fall recipes. A change of seasons brings about a change in the foods we eat. Seasonal foods like pumpkin, squash and apples play a bigger part in our diets and we seem to move from barbecues to casseroles.
  9. Football. For those who like college and pro football, “tailgating” in our RV’s while watching the games is hard to beat.
  10. A sense of gratitude. In the hustle and bustle of the summer, we can sometimes forget to be grateful. In the fall, we sense our days in the out of doors are limited for the year and we seem to be thankful.

Enjoy your RV this fall. PleasureLand RV Center invites you to visit us to see the 2014 models and to get your RV ready for the winter.
