If you love flying kites and have got one in your RV with you, you ought to check out the Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival, which is held on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, Minnesota, each year. Even if you don’t own a kite, you shouldn’t have an issue finding one in Minneapolis. There are also kite sellers at the festival.
The festival is taking place on January 27, 2018, this year and it looks to be bigger and better than ever.
It starts at noon and runs until 4pm and is free of charge. It’s simple and easy to participate: just don your winter gear to stay warm and head out onto the icy lake to let your kite fly along with everyone else. The wind over the lake makes for an ideal kite flying environment.
Members of the Minnesota Kite Society will be out as well to demonstrate their skills and tricks with kites of all shapes and sizes, so keep your eyes out for them when you’re out there.
Besides kite flying, there are also horse-drawn carriage rides, ice fishing, and roasted marshmallows. There are also some food vendors around if you want a bite to eat or a warm drink.
Overall, the festival makes for a great way to get out of your RV for an afternoon of fun. You can spend the evening and next day enjoying Minneapolis before you head out for your next destination.

Escape the Cold at a Water Park
You read that right: Minnesota, in a bid to extend its swimming season, has many indoor water parks scattered across the state. Some of these are deluxe resorts that offer something for all ages.
Check out Edgewater Hotel and Waterpark in Duluth, Arrowwood Lodge in Baxter, or even the water park right next to the Mall of America.
Learn Something New at a Museum
Get inside and out of the cold and learn something new while you do it. Minnesota is home to many extensive museums covering many different subjects. Some of the best include the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Minnesota History Center, and the Minnesota Marine Art Museum.
Explore a Nature Center
Okay, this one isn’t indoors, but Minnesota’s natural places are mostly open year round, and the winter sights are just as wonderful as any other time of year. Minnesota is renowned for owl watching, and two of the best places to see them are at Agassiz Audubon Center and the International Owl Center.
Nature center trails are threaded through with numerous trails and make great places for recreational sports, like cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing.

Cyclists who visit Minnesota will find ample opportunities for fun and challenge with Minnesota’s biking trails. Touting some truly beautiful trails of all skill levels and with over 4000 miles of paved bike trails, you’re sure to find trails that aren’t quite like those anywhere else. Here are some of the best bike trails that Minnesota has to offer.
Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Trails
The first state park in Minnesota built specifically for mountain biking, it sits on the Iron Range of Central Minnesota about 20 miles northeast of Brainerd.
Offering 25 miles of mountain bike trails year round, there are trails suitable for all skill levels.
Duluth
One of four gold level ride centers in the United States, there are some publications and blogs that contend that Duluth has the best mountain biking in the world. As the nights start to cool and the leaves begin to change, thousands of area families will head out into the National Parks and Forests to explore the woods and get some fresh air before winter sets in.
If you are planning a trip in a model from PleasureLand RV Center this fall, consider testing these two fun recipes for some great campsite snacks.
Apple Cider on the Fire
Enjoying a mug of steaming and spiced cider can keep you warm on autumn evenings in the wilderness.
Ingredients:
- 1 half gallon jug of apple cider
- 1 whole orange, unwaxed
- 3 whole cloves
- 3 whole cinnamon sticks
- 3 to 4 tablespoons of sugar, if the cider isn’t already sweetened
Wash and peel the orange, setting the peel aside. Place the orange peel, cloves, and cinnamon sticks in a cheesecloth bag. Pour the apple cider into a Dutch oven or other campfire safe pot or pan. Add the bundle of spices and let the mixture simmer over the fire, covered, for 10 to 30 minutes. Stir regularly and add the sugar at the end if needed, giving it a few extra minutes to dissolve.
Popcorn in the Woods
You don’t have to turn to the microwave in your RV from PleasureLand RV Center if you want popcorn to become a fun and exciting activity for the family to share around the fire. Get popping with just three simple ingredients and a roll of aluminum foil.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of popcorn kernels
- 4 teaspoons of vegetable oil
- Salt, butter, or sugar to top
Lay out four separate two-foot-long sheets of aluminum foil on a table or other flat surface. Pour a teaspoon of oil into the center of each sheet, then add a quarter cup of popcorn kernels to each sheet as well. Fold the top and bottom sides of each sheet down over the kernels, then twist up both sides to create a loosely sealed package. Set each package down over a bed of glowing coals and listen for the sounds of popping. When you hear a two to three second gap between pops, pull out the packets and let them cool before topping and eating.

January Artists at the Whitney Center
Each month presents new artists at St. Cloud’s Whitney Center, and this month is shaping up to be one of the best yet. From Jan. 1 to 29, enjoy the art of Kao Lee Thao, Annette S. Lee, Alice Rueter, Flora Schinkle, Sandra Driscoll and Bob Rosenberg. The forms of art range from woodcarving to oil painting, watercolor, native skywatcher art and more. The Whitney Center is located at 1527 Northway Drive in St. Cloud.
Elton Songs: The Deep Tracks of Elton John and Bernie Taupin
Elton John fans shouldn’t be anywhere other than Pioneer Place on Fifth in St. Cloud on Jan. 15 and 16. Experience Elton John’s most influential period, from 1970 to 1976, led by Mick Sterling and Peter Guertin. The 11-piece band with them will perform a number of Elton John’s greatest hits and most influential tunes.
Snowshoeing to the Stars
Cruise over to Onamia, Minn., to enjoy an evening under the stars, in the wilderness and with your snowshoes strapped to your feet. This snowshoe trek to discover the stars of the winter sky will take place on Jan. 9, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Mille Lacs Kathio State Park Campground. Registration is required and the group will be limited to 25 people to provide a more personal night sky experience.

An RV is more than just a recreational vehicle to get you to different destinations. It is your car, living space and bedroom combined that you take everywhere you go. Since you sometimes spend a large amount of time inside your RV, you want it to make it into the most comfortable vehicle on the road while showing the world that this RV belongs to you. Here are some ways to personalize your RV.
1) Stellar Paint Job: Break out the airbrush and the stencils as you let your imagination go wild. Personalize your RV with a mural, your company logo or just a unique style by giving it a paint job. You can paint just the back of the RV, the side or the entire vehicle with your creative vision. The great thing about this customization is that if you get bored with the design, just paint over it again.
2) Make Storage Simple: Although RV travel trailers offer all the type of amenities to allow you to cook and sleep in comfort, sometimes storage space can be limited when you are trying to carry all the things to make an RV into a moving home. Simplify your storage problems by utilizing sturdy racks and containers specifically made for an RV. An aluminum laundry rack in the bathroom can can keep towels and other bathroom items secure when driving over bumpy roads. If you have a toy hauler, you can increase storage space by adding sliding rails to the garage ceiling and hanging storage containers.
3) Deck Out Your Space: Personalization should start right inside your RV by making the space into an incredible and gorgeous retreat. Make your RV comfortable by decking out the space with rugs, sofa pillows and chair covers in your favorite color scheme. Come to PleasureLand RV Center and pick up your recreational vehicle to get ready for the summer
vacation. While you are packing along all the necessities, don’t forget about the following must-have items that you should have for any emergency.
Keep Hydrated: Fresh water is essential to have on any trip you take during the summer whether it is a weekend trip or you will be having fun for several weeks at a time. Bring along plenty of fresh water to drink after strenuous activities so you are properly hydrated.
Bring The Right Clothing: Having the right type of clothing can protect you from whatever type of weather you will face at your destination. Wear loose-fitting, light clothes to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Bring along a sweater if you are camping at mountain heights where the nights may be cooler, and stow away a rain jacket for those wet days. Don’t forget to bring enough footwear with you. You should have at least a pair of hiking boots when walking the trails, sneakers to wear around camp, and old shoes that you won’t mind getting muddy.
Summer Activities: If you are camping at a destination that isn’t close to a resort or recreational park, you will have to come up with fun games that the family can play. Frisbees and soccer balls can get bodies active outside. Make sure to have plenty of flashlights to play flashlight tag at night or make shadow puppets against the side of your motorhome. Have board games, playing cards and portable video games handy on rainy days when you have to stay in the RV or tents until the weather gets better.
Emergency Kits: One of the first things you should pack is a first-aid kit filled with all the necessities. Remember to pack the bandages, scissors, tape, gauze, antiseptic spray, bug spray and sunscreen lotion as well as other essentials to help in an emergency. In addition to the first-aid kit, also pack a travel kit in case something happens to your RV while on the road. Your road kit should have emergency numbers for roadside assistance, blankets, flashlights, jumper cables, roadside flares, motor oil, antifreeze, tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches, car jack, rags and other items to help if your vehicle break downs on the side of the road.
By packing all the things you need on your summer trip, you will be prepared for whatever lies in store for you. Have a fun adventure and make sure there are batteries in the camera so you can take tons of photos of your great trip.
