Since PleasureLand RV Center is the RV dealership Minnesota relies on for everything RV related, we thought we would really go out on the edge. We thought we would look for those unusual, weird, wild, and wacky places Minnesota has to offer that can make for some interesting trips. Are you ready to explore the odd side of our state? The Jolly Green Giant – Since 1979, the Jolly Green Giant has stood watch over Blue Earth, Minnesota. The town used to be home of a Green Giant vegetable canning plant, and originally the 55 foot statue was designed to lure travelers into town from I-90. Sadly, no land owner near the freeway offered property for the giant statue, and he was placed a mile away near the fairgrounds in Blue Earth. Perhaps even sadder is the canning plant is no longer operated by Green Giant. You can climb up close to his size 78 shoes to this day though and get a picture.
World’s Largest Prairie Chicken – Rothsay, Minnesota, is home to this “booming” chicken. Booming means he is puffing out the big orange sacks on each side of his neck. At thirteen feet tall and 9,000 lbs. this guy would make for a great barbecue. As he stands he mostly serves as a great place for gag photos.
World’s Largest Ball of Twine – What would you get if you rolled twine for 4 hours a day for 29 nears? Yep, a BIG ball of twine. In fact, the World’s Largest. Actually it has been clarified as the “World’s Largest Ball of Twine Rolled by One Man.” Folks in Kansas have one bigger, but they allow visitors to add to it daily. The folks in Darwin, Minnesota, are pleased with their record holder.
Paul Bunyan and The Blue Ox – Perhaps Minnesota’s most famous oddity, the lumberjack and his ox friend stand in Bemidji, Minnesota. Paul stands at 18 feet and is estimated to weigh in at 2.5 tons. He’s been standing there proudly for a while, since 1937. His blue buddy joined him in 1939.

At Pleasureland RV we want to make sure you can make the most out of your Minnesota RV experiences. Today, we want to supply you with a quick RV recipe that will make your mouth water while you’re on the road.
When you travel in a RV, you have the opportunity to try new foods, local cuisine, and to stop at markets. Because of this, you’ll be able to have plenty of fresh, interesting flavors to try.
Breakfast burritos are one of our favorites. All you need is the range top in your RV to make this delicious meal.
First, you’re going to need these ingredients:
ground meat or sausage
1 dozen eggs
1 12-ounce jar of salsa
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup bell pepper (green)
1/4 cup red or yellow peppers
2 dozen flour tortillas, and 10 inch are the best
1 16-ounce bag of shredded cheese. We suggest colby, but cheddar or swiss also works.
You’ll need to use the oven on a medium- to medium-high temperature, so make sure any children are away from the hot surface. Now, you will want to cook the sausage first until it is half cooked. At that point, add the onion and peppers and continue to fry them all together. After that, whip the eggs, and once your onions look clear, stir in the eggs and make sure to mix everything together frequently.
When the mix starts to look stiff, add your salsa and cheese. Now, you can cook the tortillas in the microwave. Follow the directions on the pack or cook them for approximately one to three minutes.
Now, you’re finished! When everything is cooked, just add your filler to the tortilla and enjoy your breakfast.
If you need to do any substitutes, it’s simple. You don’t have to add salt or pepper, since this is only for flavoring, so if you like something a little more mild, try mixing just green peppers or adding tomato instead. This quick tip can save some people quite a bit of indigestion!
Route 66 isn’t what it used to be. In the heyday of the American highway, it was a tradition to take your family along the famous Route 66, stopping for burgers, taking in a movie, staying in a low cost motel, taking photos at the famous landmarks. In fact, the iconic road trip as seen in a lot of American films still uses Route 66 iconography as the travelers pass by picturesque desert landscapes in the Southwest and send those postcards with the big “Welcome, from Albuquerque!” text.
Although Route 66 isn’t as lively as it once was, it’s still worth traveling for the lifelong Minnesota RVer who wants to take in an important part of American road culture, and while you’re making the journey, you’ll want to make a stop in Gallup, New Mexico.
Gallup was one of the thriving capitals of the Route 66 empire, and a drive through the city shows you a wide variety of beautiful sites. The facades of old movie theaters and restaurants and cafes all have a certain ghost-town charm to them, a bittersweet nostalgic feel, as if you can sense the presence of thousands of fellow travelers who’ve been here before.
Gallup is also the home of the world’s most popular Wal-Mart, as it serves as a shopping center for people from more than a hundred miles away in towns like Bluewater and Thoreau where it’s hard to find a big grocery store. This is useful for any RVer who needs to restock on the essentials or take a day to relax in the parking lot.
Gallup also puts you a stone’s throw away from Albuquerque and Santa Fe if you want to enjoy the whole New Mexico experience, and the state is full of great RV parks and camping sites. The real joy of New Mexico, however, is simply driving through the tremendous landscapes. A few hours on the road in N.M. and you’ll feel what it truly means to be an American nomad.
Sometimes you just don’t need a full sized Class A motorhome when you want to take a quick jaunt to the mountains or your favorite lake. When you think about making breakfast in your RV that is both simple and quick and doesn’t require a whole lot of cleanup, generally only a few things come to mind. You have things like cereal, toast, maybe a breakfast bar… but having something a little more complicated (like an omelet) usually doesn’t sound too appealing given the space to work with in an RV. Get ready though, because those mornings of omelet free breakfasts on the campgrounds are over! No need to dirty up your skillet or try and master that folding technique for the perfect omelet shape. Now you can have the perfect omelet that comes right out of the bag. Not just any bag of course, but straight from your trusty Ziploc bag. (Yields one omelet.)
Ingredients
2 eggs
2 slices of ham, chopped (optional)
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon onion, chopped (optional)
1 tablespoon green or red bell pepper, chopped (optional)
2 tablespoons red tomato, chopped (optional)
2 fresh mushrooms, sliced (optional)
1 tablespoon chunky salsa (optional)
Directions
Crack open two eggs and put them into a sandwich size Ziploc baggy. Press most of the air out of the bag before sealing. Shake or squeeze the bag in order to beat the eggs.
Open the bag and add the desired ingredients above.
Squeeze out as much air as you can from the bag and reseal.
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Place the bag into the water and let boil for 13 minutes.
Open the bag and let the now cooked omelet slide out onto a plate. (Your omelet should slide or roll out of the baggy with ease.)
